Anime Animal 02
A little update on our ongoing obsession with all things Japanese and animation.
In out earlier blog about anime, we mentioned "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" and how we were only a few episodes in when we wrote the entry. We have since finished watching the whole of "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" and we all agree here at Funny Little Men that it is quite simply fantastic despite its many flaws. We wanna do our own robot series now.
We're actually having to fight the temptation to put a big shiny Gurren Lagann-poster on our walls like 10 year old kids would do. Or buy a model to put on our desk. It is due to be released on DVD in America in the summer of 2008. We're still a bit puzzled about the "Row row, fight the power" lyrics though. We wonder if it is one of those embarrassingly bad translations that the Japanese are so prone to.
FLCL finally seems to have a release in the UK, we noticed the first DVD on the shelves the other day. It would be easy to give in to some sarcastic "already?" type of remark. So that's exactly what we'll do. "Already?"
And last but not least, we came across this little gem from Madhouse (see picture). It's a 12 part series called "Kaiba". Some believe it to be pretentious toss, some that it is at least a very interesting design. Our take is that it's highly unlikely to be a real classic but it has a lot going for it nevertheless.
